the Walk. Bike. Rider: Creating Great Places

Every month the Walk. Bike. Rider highlights different options for getting around without a car, including tools and inspiring stories. Check it out here. You can subscribe to receive it via e-mail here.

This month’s feature is creating great places to make getting around on foot, by bike, or riding transit easier and more enjoyable. What do we mean by “great places”?  SDOT’s recently completed McGraw Square is a good example. Just north of Westlake Center a short, one-block street end was converted to a public plaza with seating, trees, artwork and preservation of a historic statue. This new great place is part of the Westlake transportation hub, where you can connect to streetcar, monorail, light rail and buses.

For a couple more examples check out the full e-newsletter to help you walk, bike and ride. This month also has articles on complete streets, SDOT’s new 2011 Bike Map, and more.
