Anubis stands guard at King ‘Tut’ Street Station

The hard to miss 26-foot tall, 5.5 ton statue of Anubis, protector of the afterlife – Anupu or Inpu to ancient Egyptians – arrived last week at King Street Station’s Jackson Plaza to announce the much awaited  Tutankhamun: The Golden King and the Great Pharaohs exhibit at Pacific Science Center, opening on May 24 and closing on January 6, 2013.

Anubis arrived in Seattle’s waters on May 5, announcing the exhibit as well as the also marking the launch of boating season of the city’s annual opening of boating season parade.

Seattle is the last stop for this exhibition, which features more than 100 objects from King Tutankhamun’s tomb and ancient sites, including jewelry, furniture, ceremonial items, and even the king’s golden sandals. This time there will be more than twice the number of artifacts than the original exhibit that toured the Pacific Northwest in the 1970s.

Anubis will be in Seattle until late July, early August 2012. Enjoy more photos of Anubis’ arrival on Flickr: http://tinyurl.com/7aezhlv.
