Neighborhood Street Fund Large Project Applications now being accepted!

The Neighborhood Street Fund (NSF) Large Project Program is now accepting applications for the third and final round of funding from the voter approved Bridging the Gap (BTG) Transportation levy. This levy, adopted by voters in 2006, provides $4.5M every three years to select, design and construct larger neighborhood projects identified by the community.

The application is now available on-line, along with a timeline and a host of other resources to help you complete the application and answer any questions you might have about the process or type of projects that will be competitive.  Completed applications must be received by December 17, 2012 to be considered.Any transportation project is eligible if it is large ($100,000 – $750,000), is entirely on existing SDOT right-of-way;  and has strong support from its local District Council.  One such project, selected for funding in the last round, was the establishment of a new sidewalk, curbs, pedestrian lighting and street trees along 33^rd Avenue NE between NE 125^th Street and NE 130^th Street.  (See the before and after photos!)  If you would like to check out other projects which have received funding, please see the NSF Past Projects .

In January 2013, each of Seattle’s 13 neighborhood District Councils will forward 3 proposals to SDOT for evaluation, including a preliminary scope and budget.  If needed, SDOT will refine the proposed project in consultation with the applicant or to meet construction or design standards.  The projects will then be ranked by the District Councils in June and forwarded to the BTG Levy Oversight Committee.  The committee will recommend projects for funding to the Mayor and City Council, who will make the final decision regarding which projects will receive funding.  Project recommendations will be finalized in the fall of 2013, project design work will happen in 2014 with construction taking place in 2015.
