First Hill Streetcar Construction Update

The intersection of Broadway & E Yesler Way has been closed since February 9 and will reopen to traffic tomorrow, February 28. This temporary closure of Yesler Way near Yesler Terrace was necessary in order to install the rail that will be part of the First Hill Streetcar, along with restoring the adjacent impacted sidewalks, curbs, and gutters.  The Yesler Terrace station will be one of only ten along the project’s 2.5 mile route!

Crews installed 400 feet of track at the intersection of Broadway and Yesler around the corner in a very tight radius. During the Broadway to Boren closure over 1400 feet of track will be laid in addition to pouring a concrete roadway, and building curbs, gutters, sidewalks and platforms for the streetcar stations. More than 1600 cubic yards of concrete will be poured in this area.

Starting  March 4, Yesler from Broadway to Boren will be closed to traffic for four weeks to facilitate the construction. The west leg of the Broadway and Cherry intersection will be temporarily closed from March 7 to March 11.
