Summer weather has departed and cooler weather is upon us – it’s time to prepare for winter. Today, SDOT announced our new winter storm response plan. We are working to ensure that our team is up for whatever challenge winter throws our way.
Going into this storm season, we’ve already been working with our partners, including King County Metro and other agencies to design this plan, make sure buses are moving during storms, and ensure access to key institutions remains possible. We are expanding the use of salt and limiting the use of sand in addressing snow and ice. Our crews will be armed with better resources like GPS and weather-monitoring technology in our response vehicles and facilities. As an organization we’re working on how well our staff are trained, how we can better communicate with our residents and other agencies, and how we measure our effectiveness.
