Application for Safe Routes to School Mini Grants are now open!
Apply for up to $1,000 to fund projects that educate students about walking and biking to school.
Public and private schools, parent-teacher associations, and other non-profit organizations are welcome to apply.
Safe Routes to School is a national movement to make it easier and safer for students to walk and bike to school. We use a combination of strategies: education, encouragement, engineering, enforcement, evaluation, and empowerment.
We typically offer the Mini Grants in two cycles, one in April and one in October. This year in response to school closures related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Safe Routes to Schools program decided to delay the Spring Mini Grants until we could determine the best way to administer the Mini Grants during this time with the given constraints.
We’re happy to announce that we’re opening the grant cycle up for applications!
At this time we will accept applications on a rolling basis, so you can apply at any time that works best for you.
This year we encourage applications for projects that improve school safety while acknowledging that some of our historic Safe Route to School mini grant funded programs, like bike rodeos and walking school buses, may be difficult to implement while social distancing guidelines are still in place.

Applying is as easy as ABC, 123!
Just fill out our simple application form and let us know what you’d like to do, how your project will improve safety and encourage kids to walk and bike, and provide a timeline for your project. You will also need to include a letter of support from the school principal.
