SDOT Photos posted a photo:	Eastbound traffic on Mercer Street was shifted on Jan 30, 2012 to the newly constructed lanes on the north side of the street. The new, wider sidewalk is also now open for use. Next, the contractor will work on the southern side of the streets. When completed, the street will be a two-way boulevard.

Come Play in the Street…SDOT Celebrates PARK(ing) Day

SDOT_Park(ing) Day_1 rsSee how livable city streets are when they are opened to people. This Friday, September 18, from 9AM to 3PM SDOT is participating in an annual, one-day, global event where people collaborate to temporarily transform metered parking spots into public parks.

Join us in:

Ballard where two parking spots in front of the Ballard Library on 22nd Avenue NW, between 56th and 57th streets will be made into a park and in Capitol Hill where a small piece of Summit Avenue E between E Denny Way and E Olive Way is being opened up to walkers and bicyclists.

Stop by and make your own pedestrian safety bag, vote for locations that should be turned into parks (Capitol Hill site only), color in SDOT activity books and draw with sidewalk/street chalk.

At the Capitol Hill location, Crawl Space Gallery will be participating with a “meet and eat”. Stop by and talk with Brendan Jansen, the artist currently presenting at the Gallery starting at 1PM.  For more details visit the Crawl Space website.

Special thanks to City People’s Garden Store for loaning us trees to use in our “parks”.

Parks are being hosted all over the city. Check out Feet First’s map to see where.
