Construction has started on Seattle’s first parklet

Parklet Picture 017 RESIZE

It’s almost here! The city’s first parklet is starting to take shape at Montana Bar on Capitol Hill. The parklet frame was delivered bright and early this morning, and the contractor will install the decking, railings, a ramp and stairs, and landscaping over the next few days to finish this public space. The parklet converts about one and a half on-street parking spaces in front of Montana Bar (1506 E. Olive Way) into a new space for everyone to enjoy. The parklet will provide public amenities accessible from the sidewalk, including seating and vegetation.

Plan to join us at Montana Bar on Wednesday to celebrate the opening of the parklet at 5:00 p.m. Check out SDOT’s Twitter feed for updates on construction and plans for the opening. Also, be on the lookout for parklets opening in Belltown and the International District in the coming weeks.
