It’s all about safety and community this week, through maintenance of key interstates; Seattle communities gathering for National Night Out; and Pearl Jam banding together twice in their hometown (here!) to fight homelessness! We love Seattle XXOO.

Seattle Night Out: Seattle residents gather tonight all across the city, to mark this annual crime prevention night. Thanks Seattle Police Department for sponsoring Seattle Night Out!  Tweet your community power pics to share neighborhood pride!

Pearl Jam The Home Shows are tonight and Friday night, 7:30 – 11:30 PM at Safeco Field. Attendance each night is estimated at 45,000.

 

Thursday, August 9

The Seattle Seahawks play a pre-season game against the Indianapolis Colts at CenturyLink Field, 7 – 10 PM. SODO will be PACKED, with 60,000 attendees expected.

 

Friday, August 10

South Lake Union Block Party at SLU Discovery Center, 12 PM to 11 PM, an estimated 3,000 people will attend!

Panic! At the Disco concert at KeyArena from 7 PM to 10 PM, with approximately 12,000 people expected.

Pearl Jam The Home Shows concert #2 at Safeco Field, 7:30 PM – 11 PM, with a cozy 45,000 estimated attendance.

Alison Wonderland concert at WaMu Theater from 8 PM to 11 PM.  Doors open at 7 PM!  Expect an audience of about 7,000.

NB I-5 partial closure set for overnights starting tonight. From 8 PM to 5 AM, August 10 – 13, NB I-5 from Michigan St. to SR 520 will be reduced to 2 lanes. NOTE: the express lanes will be closed in both directions during this time. Expect delays and seek to plan around, if you can!

Office of the Waterfront is installing a utility vault on Madison St, between Western Ave and Alaskan Way, working 6 day weeks (Sundays off) now through August 18, 7 AM – 5 PM on weekdays and 9 AM – 5 PM on Saturdays  (and until 10 PM Saturdays, if needed). The work requires a full closure of Madison Street, Western to Alaskan, Aug. 10 – 13 overnights. Local access will be maintained.

Saturday, August 11

Obliteride: Join or cheer on the 25-, 50-, and 100-mile rides and 5K walk, to benefit Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.  Riders will leave UW’s E-1 parking lot in waves between 7 AM and 9:30 AM, with the 5K walk following the last wave. Riders and walkers finish at Gas Works Park.  Estimated attendance: 3,000.

SODO Flea: Monthly Market on Utah Ave S, between S Stacy St and S Holgate St, 10 AM – 4 PM.  Estimated attendance: 1,000.

SPF30 – Sub Pop Records 30th Anniversary Festival: Wear your sunscreen for this free music festival celebrating Sub Pop Records‘ 30th Anniversary, along West Seattle’s Alki Beach.  Event hours: 12 PM – 10 PM; estimated attendance: 30,000.

Daryl Hall & John Oates + Train concert: at KeyArena.  7 PM – 10 PM.  Estimated attendance: 10,000.

 

Sunday August 12

Lake Union 10K: 10th Anniversary Lake Union 10K run or walk along the Cheshiahud Lake Union Loop Trail.  Race starts and finishes in Lake Union Park, with course running clockwise around the lake.  7:30 AM – 11 AM.  Estimated attendance: 1,200.

Magnolia Village Car Show: on W McGraw St, between 32nd and 34th avenues W; from 8 AM to 3:30 PM.  Estimated attendance: 800.

BEGO Ethiopian Heritage Arts & Music Fest: Festival celebrating Ethiopian music, culture, art, and food. On E. Cherry St. between 23rd Ave. and MLK Jr. Way.  Festival hours: 11AM – 10PM.  Estimated attendance: 900.

Othello International Festival: Annual community festival at Othello Park (4351 S. Othello Street).  Festival hours: 12 PM – 6 PM.  Estimated attendance: 2,000.

Greaseball: Annual free all-ages community event to showcase home-built, old-school hot rods, custom chops, rat rods, bobbers, vintage motorcycles, and more.  Event will close the roadway at 5606 1st Ave S from 12 PM to 8 PM.  Estimated attendance: 1,000.

Seattle Sounders vs. FC Dallas: at CenturyLink Field.  7 PM – 9 PM.  Estimated attendance: 35,000.
