Travel Alert: Pavement repair at 6th Ave S and S Spokane St

In coordination with the West Seattle High-Rise Bridge closure, we will repave sections of the intersection of 6th Ave S and S Spokane St on Thursday May 21 and Friday May 22.

This intersection is located under the Spokane St Viaduct and connects to on-ramps and off-ramps to and from I-5.

Though the project was planned before the closure of the West Seattle High-Rise Bridge, we have accelerated the timeline since the pavement improvements will support increased traffic through the intersection. The improvements will help increase safety and mobility for people driving, riding bicycles, and using the crosswalks through this busy intersection.

During construction, the intersection will remain open to traffic in all directions, but some lanes will be closed.

The crews will remove and repave damaged sections of pavement in the middle of this intersection and in one of the crosswalks.

Here’s what you can expect during construction:

Schedule:

Thursday, May 21st and Friday, May 22nd from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM each day.

Work is weather dependent, so timing of the work may change if needed.

Lane restrictions:

Some lanes will be closed, but at least one lane in each direction will remain open.

Flaggers will be on site to help guide people traveling around the work area.

Pedestrian impacts:

The east-west crosswalk across 6th Ave S on the south side of the intersection will be closed during construction.

Noise & other impacts:

Expect loud noise, dust, and vibrations while crews are working.
