Wondering what’s being built at the corner of 6th Ave S and S Weller St? That’s the new Chinatown/International District parklet!

Hosted by the Chinatown/International District Business Improvement Area (CIDBIA) and located outside Oasis Tea Zone, the parklet is set to open next week and will be the second parklet installed under SDOT’s Pilot Parklet Program. To celebrate the launch of this new space, the CIDBIA is planning a kickoff and ribbon cutting event for 4:00 PM next Friday, June 6. Mark your calendars and join us at 519 6th Ave S for music, dancing, and public space fun!

Parklets, which are small community gathering spaces, are intended to be a cost-effective tool for activating streets, creating vibrant neighborhoods, and promoting economic vitality. Since the Montana Bar parklet opened last September, we have expanded the Pilot Parklet Program to include a total of 15 parklet locations throughout Seattle. We’re working with the other 13 parklet hosts to open their privately-funded parklets this summer. Each parklet will be carefully evaluated to measure its use and public perception.

Be sure to check out the program website for parklet opening announcements, program updates, and more information!
