Last month, SDOT participated for the first time in Park(ing) Day. On this day, parking spaces around the city, and world, become parks, where people could play games, socialize, and generally return more of the city streets to pedestrians for a day. SDOT’s goal was to help share information on our programs that help residents use alternative modes of transportation to get around the city. We hosted a location in Ballard in front of the Ballard Library and one in Capitol Hill on Summit Ave between E. Denny Way and E. Olive Way. Both locations had activities for the community to enjoy which included board games, badminton, arts and crafts, and snacks.

Great weather and community interaction made the day a success. Other “park” locations were sponsored by community groups throughout the city and featured a host of creative ideas on other ways to use parking spaces. You can find more information on Park(ing) Day here.
