NE 45th St Viaduct Open for Business Today

After months of intensive work, the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) will officially reopen the NE 45th Street Viaduct today. The new structure will open to all traffic, pedestrians and bicycles as of 10 am Friday morning Sept 10th.

Please join us at a ceremony to officially reopen the viaduct this morning at 8:45-10. Come help us celebrate and shake hands with the City staff and contractor who completed the project on schedule and in time for the first home Huskies football game!

The reopening event will be held at the top of the hill near 22nd Avenue NE & NE 45th Street. The roadway will permanently reopen to traffic following the event.

During construction, the map we made to tell people about their transportation choices (how to walk, bike or ride transit around the project) was almost 3 times as popular as the detour map!  After the viaduct reopens, the choices map remains great resources about your walk, bike and ride options.   Just remember that the #25 bus will revert back to its normal route on NE 45th St. and 15th Ave NE. http://metro.kingcounty.gov/cftemplates/show_map.cfm?BUS_ROUTE=025&DAY_NAV=W.  Keep up your walking, biking and riding!   Try it for the Huskies game….and sign up for the Walk Bike Ride Challenge, cut car trips, receive encouragement and enter to win great prizes like a $100 gift certificate to REI or Zipcar.
