Summer Streets Return This Weekend!

The good weather is a sign that summer is right around the corner, which must mean that it’s time for Summer Streets!

Summer Streets open up the city’s largest public space – our streets – for people to have fun, celebrate their community, discover healthy transportation options and support local businesses. Each event is hosted through the help of local organizations like business chambers, PTSAs and neighborhood district councils. Due to high demand and significant community interest, the City of Seattle is hosting five events in the same locations as in previous years:  Ballard, Alki, Greenwood, the Rainier Valley and Bicycle Sundays along Lake Washington Boulevard.

Just this weekend are events in Ballard on Friday, May 20, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., and along Alki in West Seattle on Sunday, May 22, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. This will be a great chance to draw on the street with chalk, roller skate, or take a slow walk down the road. Or you could play football, jump rope or even host a hula hoop competition. Your local businesses can move their restaurant tables outdoors or have a sidewalk sale.

The goal of Summer Streets is for everyone to enjoy these selected city roads in a whole new way – one that is active, healthy and embraces the local community. For more information on this great program, visit the Summer Streets website at http://www.seattle.gov/transportation/summerstreets.htm.
