Thank You Rainier Valley for Celebrating in the Street!

Thanks to Rainier Valley businesses, neighbors, friends and everyone else who helped make last Saturday’s Hertitage Parade and Summer Streets event a huge success.

An estimated 4,000 people enjoyed the Heritage Parade and party; watching wonderful drill teams; a kids bike parade, and ethnic dances from Ethiopia to Mexico and just soaking up the positive atmosphere of Rainier Ave converted to a public plaza for a perfect summer afternoon. Amazing performers showed off the diversity and talent of the Rainier Valley and 98118 (one of the most diverse zip codes in the country)–it was an incredible show!

Local businesses like and area residents donated 2,787 cans of food to create Seattle’s largest canned food pyramid–that’s almost a ton and a half of donations. All food was donated to the Rainier Valley Food Bank. (a similar large size canned food pyramid was built in Greenwood Summer Streets the week before…combined that is one big pyramind and a lot of food to help those in need)
