Prevent Distracted Driving

The SDOT Blog has reported that safety on roadways in Washington State continues to improve and the federal government recently reported that roadway fatalities and injuries across the nation fell to their lowest rates ever in 2010.  But there is no doubt that there is much work to be done to ensure safety for walkers, bikers, and drivers.

Distracted driving continues to be a leading contributing cause of collisions on roadways nationwide and the USDOT in partnership with National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently launched a website intended to raise awaresness about the dangerous of inattentive driving.  The website, distraction.gov, is loaded with tools, tests, and testimonials about this issue which they describe as “a dangerous epidemic on America’s roadways”.  This is a great resource for parents of teen drivers and for anyone that steps foot in a motor vehicle.

The “Faces of Distracted Driving” series will certainly make an impact to all those who hear the stories about how one text or call wrecked it all for these young people in our country.  Watch the video below to learn how distracted driving changed the lives of one Washington family forever.
