PARK(ing) day happens every year on the third Friday in September and is an opportunity for artists, activists, and community members to temporarily make parking spaces into parks. The event raises awareness about important issues like creating a walkable, livable, healthy city. Last month we placed a call to all neighborhoods to “Create your own park this September 21 from 9a.m. to 3 p.m.! “
The deadline for park applications has closed, however you can use the Park Location Map to plan a walking tour of all the wonderful parks being set up throughout Seattle on Friday. Take your camera, and maybe pack a picnic basket to share with other PARK(ing) Day enthusiasts. Who knows, maybe you’ll make some new friends! We hope you’ll enjoy these mini parks and perhaps you’ll be inspired to start planning your own PARK(ing) Day park for next year with your neighbors, your friends or even your co-workers.
It’s not too late to spread the word about Friday’s PARK(ing) Day. You can print out the following posters and information for people you think might be interested in your community or perhaps your workplace.
