New Milestone Reached for the South Park Bridge Construction

View from First Avenue South Bridge

The construction on this project has reached the half-way mark. About two weeks ago, the deck of one of the south approach spans was poured; another span is being formed up on the Boeing side of the project site, and the deck is scheduled to be poured in mid-October.

If you are near the site, you will see that crews are almost finished sinking the northern caisson, Pier 4, and will reach its final point at about 105 feet below the river. Then, the bottom will be filled with a concrete pour. The fabrication of the bascule girders is occurring about a mile downriver of the project. Stand on the sidewalk on the First Avenue South Bridge to see the assembly of the steel components of the draw spans and the massive steel frame that will support the draw spans. The artistic pedestrian rail started to be fabricated in Tacoma.
