Mercer Corridor Project (East Phase)
Weekly Construction Preview

This week, crews will focus on utility installations on Fairview Avenue N between Harrison Street and Valley Street and electrical transmission line removal on Valley Street and 9th Avenue N.

Activities this week include:

  • Begin pavement removal and concrete installation on Fairview Avenue N between Mercer Street and Valley Street.
  • Continue Seattle City Light work including installing a vault near the intersection of Mercer Street and Fairview Avenue N and continuing duct bank work on the west side of Fairview Avenue N between Mercer and Harrison streets in preparation for rebuilding sections of the roadway.
  • Continue transmission line and pole removal on Valley Street and 9th Avenue N. Please note, temporary lane restrictions will occur to accommodate this work on 9th Ave. N and Valley St. through mid-December.  Work will occur at the following times:

–Weekdays during non-peak traffic hours, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on 9th Ave. N and Valley St.

–During the evenings of December 3rd-5th from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. on Valley St. between Westlake Ave. N and Fairview Ave. N.

–During these lane restrictions, traffic will be routed around the work zone and uniformed police officers will be onsite at affected intersections to facilitate traffic flow.

  • Continue work on the median and cast in place wall for the I-5 on- and off-ramps at Mercer Street. Please note this work will be located out of traffic and will not require lane restrictions on the I-5 on- and off-ramps at Mercer Street.
  • Continue sidewalk removal and pole foundation installation on Fairview Avenue N.

Traffic engineers will:

  • Monitor traffic flow on Mercer Street.
  • Monitor traffic flow at the Dexter Avenue N and Mercer Street intersection.
  • Continue planning for the eventual reopening of southbound Fairview Avenue N.
