This week, crews are focusing on pavement removal and grading on the west side of Fairview Avenue N between Mercer Street and Harrison Street and installation of new signal poles and mast arms at the intersection of Fairview Avenue N and Mercer Street.
Activities this week include:
- Begin pavement removal and grading on west side of Fairview Avenue N between Mercer Street and Harrison Street in preparation for rebuilding the roadway.
- Begin underground water main work on Valley Street and Terry Avenue N. Work occurs nightly from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. through December 20. Traffic impacts will include:
- Westbound Valley Street is restricted to one lane between Boren Avenue N and Westlake Avenue N while crews work in the center lane.
- Terry Avenue N is restricted to southbound traffic only between Valley Street and Mercer Street while crews work on the east side of the roadway.
- Flaggers are positioned to maintain traffic flow and assist vehicles and equipment entering and exiting the work zone.
- Continue signal pole and mast arm installation at the intersection of Fairview Avenue N and Mercer Street. Please note this work will require two lanes of eastbound Mercer Street to be restricted between Terry Avenue N and Fairview Avenue N for approximately two weeks.
- Work occurs on weekdays during non-peak traffic hours from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- Vehicles are being routed around the work zone and a uniformed police officer will be positioned to facilitate traffic flow.
- Continue concrete installation on Fairview Avenue N between Mercer Street and Valley Street.
- Continue Seattle City Light duct bank work and catch basin installation on the west side of Fairview Avenue N between Mercer and Harrison streets in preparation for rebuilding sections of the roadway.
- Continue work on the median and cast in place wall for the I-5 on- and off-ramps at Mercer Street. Please note this work will be located out of traffic and will not require lane restrictions on the I-5 on- and off-ramps at Mercer Street.
- Continue pole foundation and conduit installation on Fairview Avenue N.
Traffic engineers adjusted the signal timing along the Mercer Corridor for the off-peak and weekend hours. They will continue to:
- Monitor traffic flow on Mercer Street.
- Monitor traffic flow at the Dexter Avenue N and Mercer Street intersection.
