On Friday July 5, the Mercer Corridor Project crews will continue work on SR 99 and Mercer Street including demolition of the eastern side of the SR 99 bridge over Mercer Street.
In order to accomplish this major work, it is necessary to close SR 99 and Mercer Street to traffic beginning Friday, July 5, at 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. Monday, July 8.
Early warning signs will be available in advance of the SR 99 lane restrictions. During the closure the following closures will be in place:
- SR 99 will be fully closed between Valley Street and the southern end of the Battery Street Tunnel. Traffic traveling through Seattle via SR 99 will be directed to I-5 north of Seattle at 85th Street or south of Seattle at E Marginal Way and Spokane Street.
- Mercer Street will be fully closed to traffic between Fifth Avenue N and Dexter Avenue N. Traffic heading east towards I-5 will be detoured to Harrison and Broad streets at Fifth Avenue N and will reconnect to Mercer Street at Ninth Avenue N to continue east.
- The I-5 on- and off-ramps at Mercer Street and Broad Street will not be closed, they will remain open during the weekend work.
Motorists should expect significant traffic and delays, and should plan ahead and use alternate routes.
