Imagine the Possibilities! Rainier Summer Streets Saturday, 8/17

Saturday, August 17 is a huge family-friendly party along Rainier Avenue S from S Alaska and S Brandon Streets. This free event opens the city’s largest public space – its streets – so people can walk, bike, roll, run, skip and shop – without having to watch out for cars! Summer Streets is partnering with the Rainier Chamber of Commerce and annual Rainier Valley Heritage Parade for some good old fashioned fun. Check out our activity map for all the details.

This year’s theme is “Picnic in the Street.” Bring your blanket or lawn chairs and lounge along Rainier. Restaurants are serving small plates and Big Boys Filipino, 314 Pie and Honest Biscuits food trucks will sell food in the Full Tilt parking lot. And there are so many things to do! Enter a pie eating contest; support local artists and shop at Art in the Alley; check out the 2nd Annual BBQ contest; decorate your bike and go on a kids scavenger hunt; and join Detective Cookie for chess. Stay until the end, boogie to live music or join the World Dance Party and hang out with your neighbors.

FREE bike parking will be available near Bike Works on Ferdinand Street. The Rainier Valley Food Bank will be building cool sculptures out of healthy canned food donations—make it even more fun by bringing cans to donate!

There will be tons of fun for everyone! Forecast predicts a comfortable 72 degrees. See you in the street. ♥ SDOT
