Weekly Construction Preview

This week, crews will continue grading and pouring sidewalks on Westlake Avenue North, and on Valley Street. Crews will also continue construction on the north side of Mercer Street between Fifth Avenue North and Dexter Avenue North and the east side of SR 99 between Valley and Harrison streets.

 Activities this week include:

  • Begin roadway striping on Westlake Avenue North between Eighth Avenue North and Aloha Street the evenings of August 27-29 from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.  Please note, the left lane of both northbound and southbound Westlake Avenue North will be restricted between Eighth Avenue North and Aloha Street during this work.
  • Continue underground electrical work across Roy Street at Sixth Avenue North. Please note, Roy Street east of Sixth Avenue North will be local access only for approximately one week with no right turns from southbound SR 99 onto Roy Street being permitted.
  • Continue roadway grading on Roy Street between Ninth Avenue North and Dexter Avenue North.
  • Continue grading and pouring sidewalks on Westlake Avenue North between Mercer Street and Ninth Avenue North and on Valley Street between Westlake Avenue North and Fairview Avenue North.
  • Continue sidewalk work on the north side of Mercer Street between Second Avenue North and Fourth Avenue North.
  • Continue work on the abutments for the east side of the SR 99 overpass over Mercer Street.
  • Continue installing dowels in the north retaining wall and footing on Mercer Street between Fifth Avenue North and Dexter Avenue North.
  • Continue pole and conduit installation for new signals on Valley Street.
  • Continue installing poles and conduit for lighting on Westlake Avenue North and on Valley Street.

Please note, on Tuesday, Sept. 3, Westlake Avenue North will re-open to traffic and Ninth Avenue North will close between Aloha and Mercer streets. Traffic engineers will continue to:

  • Monitor traffic on Mercer Street, Fifth Avenue North, Broad Street and Ninth Avenue North.
  • Monitor traffic at the Westlake Avenue North and Mercer Street intersection.
  • Monitor traffic flow at the Dexter Avenue North and Mercer Street intersection.
