Mercer Corridor Project
Weekly Construction Preview

mercer_logo_200This week, crews will repair and install sidewalk panels along the east side of Westlake Avenue North and Ninth Avenue North on Monday and Tuesday, and will saw cut the roadway near the intersection of Fifth Avenue West and West Mercer Street in anticipation of future drainage improvements work. Construction activities will also continue on the north side of Mercer Street between Fifth Avenue North and Dexter Avenue North and the east side of SR 99 between Valley and Harrison streets.

Activities this week include:

  • Begin sidewalk repair and installation along the eastern side of Westlake Avenue North and Ninth Avenue North
  • Perform pavement sawcutting near the intersection of Fifth Avenue West and West Mercer Street in anticipation of drainage work in early January
  • Continue installation of an underground storm water detention system on Mercer Street between Fourth and Fifth avenues
  • Continue sidewalk work and conduit installation on the south side of Mercer Street between Queen Anne Avenue North and Third Avenue North and on the north side of Mercer Street between Queen Anne Avenue North and Fourth Avenue North.
  • Continue landscaping installation on Westlake Avenue North and Valley Street.
  • Continue installing concrete panels on the north retaining wall on Mercer Street between Fifth Avenue North and Dexter Avenue North.
  • Continued installing utilities on the south side of Mercer Street between Fifth Avenue North and Aurora Avenue North.
  • Continued work on the north and south ends of the east side of the SR 99 bridge.

Reminder: Mercer Street and SR 99 are now open following a weekend closure. During the closure, crews successfully demolished the western side of the SR 99 bridge over Mercer Street. This closure along with the previous weekend closure allowed for the completion of critical Mercer Street widening and SR 99 bridge replacement work to help meet an important deadline allowing for construction of the SR 99 Bored Tunnel’s North Portal in June of next year.

Please note: Nighttime lane restrictions on eastbound Mercer Street will be in effect from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. weekday evenings, Dec. 16-19.

  • Eastbound traffic on Mercer Street will be required to turn right on Fifth Avenue North and re-connect to eastbound Mercer Street via Harrison and eastbound Broad streets.
  • Northbound and southbound Fifth Avenue North will remain open to traffic.
  • Mercer Street between Fifth Avenue North and Dexter Avenue North will be closed to traffic.
