Weekly Construction Preview

mercer_logo_200Work continues this week on the north side of Mercer Street between Fifth Avenue North and Dexter Avenue North and the west side of SR 99 between Valley and Harrison streets. Construction also continues on Mercer Street at Fifth Avenue North with daytime lane restrictions on Mercer Street to accommodate lateral storm water connections beneath the roadway.

Activities this week include:

  • Begin sidewalk and pavement demolition and conduit installation on the north side of Mercer  Street between Fourth Avenue North and Fifth Avenue North.
  • Continue sidewalk work and  conduit installation on the south side of Mercer Street between Third Avenue  North and Fourth Avenue North.
  • Continue sidewalk work at the  intersection of Fifth Avenue North and Roy Street. Please note, daytime  lane restrictions will be in place on Fifth Avenue North and Roy Street. One lane in each direction will be open during off-peak travel times from  9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Continue concrete panel  installation on the north retaining wall on Mercer Street between Fifth  Avenue North and Dexter Avenue North.
  • Continue utility  installation on the south side of Mercer Street between Fifth Avenue North  and Aurora Avenue North.
  • Continue work on the north  and south ends of the west side of the SR 99 bridge.

Please note: Eastbound Mercer Street and southbound Fifth Avenue North will be fully closed to traffic beginning Saturday, Feb. 8 at 4 a.m. to Monday, Feb. 10 at 5 a.m. for demolition of the old SR 99 bridge footings over Mercer Street and utility work beneath the roadway. During the closure:

  • Eastbound Mercer Street will be fully closed to traffic between Fifth Avenue North and Ninth  Avenue North. Travelers heading east from Fifth Avenue North should take  Harrison Street to eastbound Broad Street to re-connect with Mercer Street  at Ninth Avenue North.
  • Southbound Fifth Avenue North   will be fully closed to traffic between Roy and Mercer Streets. Travelers  heading south on Fifth Avenue North will be detoured to Roy Street and  Fourth Avenue North in order to reconnect with Fifth Avenue North via  eastbound Mercer Street.
  • The sidewalk on Mercer  Street will also be closed between Fifth Avenue North and Ninth Avenue North.  Pedestrians will be detoured to Broad Street.
  • Westbound Mercer Street,  Broad Street, Dexter Avenue North, SR 99 and the I-5 on- and off-ramps at  Mercer Street will remain open during the weekend work.
