Travel Alert May 10: Work switching to the west side of SW Avalon Way

Road work on SW Avalon Way between SW Yancy St and SW Genesee St

SW Avalon Way and 35th Ave SW connect West Seattle to many local retail establishments and services. They’re also a major transit and transport route with services connecting West Seattle to the rest of the city. We’re continuing construction for the repair and reconfiguring of 35th Ave SW to improve safety, accessibility, and comfort for all users.

On Friday, May 10 traffic will shift to the east side of SW Avalon Way from SW Genesee St to SW Yancy St as we prepare to work on the west side of the street.

Here’s what you can expect:

On May 10, we will be closing and conducting utility work and pavement reconstruction at the west side of the intersection of SW Genesee St and SW Avalon Way. This closure will last a few weeks.

We’re repaving SW Avalon Way and 35th Ave SW between SW Spokane St and SW Alaska St. Repaving will make the street more comfortable to drive on and extend its useful life. The project will also:

  • Upgrade curb ramps
  • Make minor drainage system upgrades
  • Install protected bike lanes
  • Make bus stop improvements
