What’s happening on SW Alaska St and 35th Ave SW?

Earlier this year, as a part of the SW Seattle Paving: 35th/Avalon Project, construction began to make safety and transit improvements for people walking, bicycling, driving and riding the bus in West Seattle. When complete, improvements will include a new protected bike lane, new bus stops, widened sidewalks in some areas, and a full depth rebuild of the road.

We have now begun work on SW Alaska St and will be closing the intersection of 35th Ave SW and SW Alaska St for up to 3 weekends. The first closure will take place as soon as Friday, December 13 at 7 PM and continue through the early morning of Monday, December 16. We need to close the intersection for the safety of people traveling and to allow workers, large equipment, and trucks to maneuver throughout the work zone efficiently and safely. This work relies on good weather to allow the concrete to cure, so depending on weather, the schedule may change.

Here’s what you can expect:

Starting Friday, December 13 at 7 PM, the intersection of SW Alaska St and 35th Ave SW will be closed and is scheduled to reopen early morning on Monday, December 16. This first intersection closure will allow us to complete water utility upgrades to then allow us to rebuild the concrete panels in the intersection.

This work will require up to 3 weekend closures. The work is weather dependent and subject to change.
