Yes, the impact is bad – for the first or West Phase of the N 105th – N/NE Northgate Way Improvement Project crews must close eastbound N 105th between Greenwood Avenue N and Aurora Ave N for up to five months – beginning Thursday, July 25. During that time westbound traffic along that segment of N 105th will be down to one lane. The suggested eastbound detours are highlighted below:
The N 105th – N/NE Northgate Way Improvement Project makes improvements from Greenwood to Corliss avenues north, with complete roadway repaving, new sidewalks and curb ramps, and drainage improvements… (sounds great, but construction is still tough to deal with). SDOT will also upgrade traffic signals and street lighting from Greenwood Ave N to Lake City Way NE and along Lake City Way to N 120th St… (if only this could ease construction impacts…).
The paving element of the project is the most disruptive, so the plan is to do it in three distinct phases: West, Middle and Final. The contractor will finish one phase before moving onto the next (i.e. limit the length of the pain). The first phase – the West Phase – runs from Greenwood to Aurora.
The Middle Phase, between Aurora Ave N and Meridian Ave N, comes next and will also close eastbound lanes – with one lane for westbound.
The Final Phase is the one block between Meridian Ave N and Corliss Ave N, just west of I-5. For that piece the roadway is wide enough to allow two way traffic during construction.
The entire project will take a year to complete, so crews expect to wrap up in August, 2014 and hopefully the final result will erase the images of construction congestion yet to come. Hang in there…
