King Street Station Secures Another Grant!

Rendering at night of finished station's South King Street entrance

On the heels of yesterday’s announcement that the station would receive $18.3 million for renovation and upgrade work, today we learned that King Street Station has been awarded a $2.5 million grant for energy efficiency improve- ments. These funds will allow SDOT to increase the number of geothermal wells being installed at the station as well as enhance mechanical and electrical systems.

SDOT has been aggressively seeking grant funds to improve Seattle’s transportation system and leverage local tax dollars. This latest grant award comes from the Federal Transit Administration’s TIGGER II program, which makes transit investments to lower energy consumption and reduce greenhouse gases.

So for those keeping score at home, our two day grant total for the rail station is $20.8 million. These funds will really help our efforts to restore and upgrade Seattle’s historic King Street Station.
