“Where is the seawall?”
“Are gribbles real?”
“What will an earthquake do to Seattle’s waterfront?”
If you have ever asked yourself these questions, you’re not alone! Elliott Bay Seawall Project staff have attended several community fairs and festivals this summer and have already talked with more than 600 people picnicking at Olympic Sculpture Park, enjoying the Art Walk in Pioneer Square, or celebrating at the International District Dragon Fest.
While browsing our display boards, chatting with staff, and coloring gribbles, kids and adults alike have asked our project team some great questions. We’re excited to hear what topics are on your mind, and so far we’ve learned that folks are interested in the following topics:
- The historic waterfront and original seawall construction,
- Understanding what’s at risk if the seawall fails,
- The project schedule and milestones,
- Gribbles – what they are, and what they eat!
- Potential impacts of construction on waterfront businesses,
- The construction methods to be used for the seawall and how well they’ll hold up in an earthquake,
- The potential location of the new seawall and Alaskan Way,
- The Seawall Project’s relationship to Waterfront Seattle and the Alaskan Way Viaduct replacement, and
- Cost estimates and availability of funding for the seawall.
Watch for new information to be posted to our website as we receive more questions from you. We hope to see you in the sun at our upcoming events!
