Mercer Weekly Construction Wrap-up for September 30-October 6

This week crews primarily focused on continuing underground utility improvements near Valley Street, Fairview Avenue N and Mercer Street, and also landscaping work on Ninth Avenue N.

 Construction activities this week included:

  • Installation of water lines on Valley Street.
  • Installation of electrical vaults and preparing them for new electrical conduit on Fairview Avenue N.
  • Removing pavement in preparation for rebuilding sections of Fairview Avenue N.
  • Beginning electrical transmission cable pull activities on Mercer Street, which involved temporary lane revisions on Mercer west of Ninth Avenue N.
  • Installation of new electrical infrastructure along the Mercer Street medians, which required a single lane closure on eastbound Mercer daily from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • Electrical and sign bridge foundation work near the I-5 on-and off-ramps. This work required nighttime lane restrictions on the I-5 ramps at Mercer Street. Work began on Thursday and will take about a week to complete.
  • Completed landscaping on Ninth Avenue N between Mercer Street and Broad Street.

Also this week, SDOT traffic engineers monitored the traffic flow on Mercer Street, and the traffic flow at the Dexter and Mercer intersection. We continue to see drivers ‘blocking the box” at the intersection, so we have asked Seattle Police for additional enforcement at this location.
