South Park Bridge Construction Progresses

Construction crews continue with the demolition of the south half of the old bridge.  If you have been down in the area, you probably noticed the distinctive brick control tower has been removed. Demolition will continue with the removal of the bridge deck on the top of the south bascule pier, exposing the massive concrete counterweight within the pier, which will be broken up into pieces and dropped into the confines of the bascule pier below before the remaining deconstruction of the pier.

The new draw span structure is being assembled downriver, near the 1st Ave S Bridge.

Some of the other elements of the draw span structure are being preassembled before installation on the bridge.
