Paving, Paving, Everywhere Paving!

Thanks to the Bridging the Gap (BTG) Transportation Initiative, since 2007more than 170 lane-miles of arterial roadway have been repaved or reconstructed across the city,. Roadways that have seen major repaving include Airport Way S, 15th Avenue NE, Dexter Avenue N, Columbian Way S, First Avenue S, Fourth Avenue S, Fifth Avenue S, 15th Avenue N, NE Ravenna Boulevard and 14th Avenue S.

In 2013, SDOT will begin repaving Delridge Way SW, NE 125th Street between I-5 and Sand Point Way NE and NE 105th, and N Northgate Way from Greenwood Avenue N to Lake City Way NE.

The Delridge Way Project will pave Delridge Way SW south of Orchard Street and will be broken into five phases. Project benefits will include new concrete and asphalt pavement providing a smoother ride that better withstands traffic loads; increased storm-water capacity reducing overflow into Longfellow Creek; new and upgraded curb ramps to meet current accessibility standards; and lane reconfigurations to increase safety for all modes of travel . The NE 125th Street project stretches nearly two miles from Fifth Avenue NE and NE 130th Street along Roosevelt Way NE to NE 125th Street and then to Sand Point Way NE (at 40th Avenue NE). Project benefits include repairs to the roadway base to better withstand traffic loads, new asphalt pavement which provides a safer, smoother ride; over 80 new or upgraded curb ramps to meet current accessibility standards; and the addition of some bio-retention structures to the storm-water system. The largest paving project in 2013 will be along N 105th Street and N/NE Northgate Way from Greenwood Avenue N to Lake City Way NE. This project will begin in the spring 2013 and be completed in the spring of 2014.

Planned roadway improvements will include new paving on the roadway from Greenwood Avenue N to Corliss Avenue N; new drainage infrastructure, including new stormwater detention pipes and water quality features; new five-foot-wide sidewalks and curb ramps; and new roadway markings. The project will also include eight new street lights; new dynamic message signs (DMS), new closed-circuit TV cameras to help with traffic management and safety and seven new cameras that provide real-time traffic information.
