Mercer Corridor Project
Weekly Construction Preview

This week, crews will continue to work on underground utilities on Valley Street, Broad Street, Ninth Avenue North and Westlake Avenue North, north of Mercer Street. Crews are also continuing construction on the north side of Mercer Street between Fifth Avenue North and Dexter Avenue North and the east side of SR 99 between Valley Street and Harrison Street.

Activities this week include:

  • Signal repair at the intersection of Mercer Street and Westlake Avenue North. Due to a vehicular accident that removed a signal control cabinet, the signal at the intersection of Mercer Street and Westlake Avenue North is on temporary flash mode while crews repair the signal cabinet. Two uniformed police officers are onsite to help direct traffic while repairs take place. SDOT anticipates the signal to be functioning by Monday afternoon.
  • Continue night work at the intersection of Ninth Avenue North and Broad Street for underground water main and stormwater utilities. One lane in each direction will be maintained on Ninth Avenue North from Mercer Street to just north of Broad Street during work hours. Work will occur on weeknights from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. for approximately two weeks. Please note, Ninth Avenue North will be re-opened during the day to accommodate higher traffic volumes.
  • Continue sawcutting, sidewalk removal and conduit installation on Roy Street between First Avenue North and Fifth Avenue North. Work will progress from west to east and will include parking lane closures while construction activities are underway.
  • Continue work on the east side of SR 99 and Mercer Street between Fifth Avenue North and Dexter Avenue North including water line work, excavation and shoring for retaining wall removal.
  • Continue Seattle City Light and communications duct bank work on Valley Street between Terry Avenue North and Westlake Avenue North.
  • Continue installation of pole foundations for streetlights on Valley Street between Fairview Avenue North and Terry Avenue North.

Reminder: The I-5 on- and off-ramps at Mercer Street opened this morning following a weekend closure. During the closure, crews installed new drainage facilities, repaired the off-ramp roadway base, repaved and striped the off-ramp, installed guardrails on both ramps, and completed the installation of sign bridges across the on and off-ramps.

Traffic engineers will continue to:

  • Monitor traffic on Mercer Street, Fifth Avenue North, Broad Street and Ninth Avenue North.
  • Monitor traffic at the Westlake Avenue North and Mercer Street intersection.
  • Monitor traffic flow at the Dexter Avenue North and Mercer Street intersection.
