Weekly Construction Preview

mercer_logo_200This week, crews continued grading and pouring sidewalks on Westlake Avenue North, and on Valley Street. Crews also continued construction on the north side of Mercer Street between Fifth Avenue North and Dexter Avenue North and the east side of SR 99 between Valley and Harrison streets.

Activities this week included:

  • Completed grading and pouring sidewalks on Westlake Avenue North between Mercer Street and Ninth Avenue North.
  • Continued roadway grading on Roy Street between Ninth Avenue North and Dexter Avenue North.
  • Continued underground electrical work and concrete panel replacement across Roy Street at Sixth Avenue North. Please note, Roy Street east of Sixth Avenue North will be local access only with no right turns from southbound SR 99 onto Roy Street permitted while work continues (approximately two more weeks).
  • Continued grading and pouring sidewalks on Valley Street between Westlake Avenue North and Fairview Avenue North.
  • Continued pole and conduit installation for new signals on Valley Street.
  • Continued installing poles and conduit for lighting on Westlake Avenue North and on Valley Street.
  • Continued sidewalk work on the north side of Mercer Street between Second Avenue North and Fourth Avenue North.
  • Continued work on the abutments for the east side of the SR 99 overpass over Mercer Street.
  • Continued installing dowels in the north retaining wall and footing on Mercer Street between Fifth Avenue North and Dexter Avenue North.

Please note, on Tuesday, September 3, Westlake Avenue North will re-open to traffic and Ninth Avenue North will close between Aloha and Mercer streets. Also note, from 11 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7, northbound SR 99 between the south end of the Battery Street tunnel and Valley Street, and Mercer St. between Fifth Avenue North and Dexter Avenue North, will be closed to accommodate girder placement and other activities associate with the West Phase of the Mercer Corridor Project.

Traffic engineers will continue to:

  • Monitor traffic on Mercer Street, Fifth Avenue North, Broad Street and Ninth Avenue North.
  • Monitor traffic at the Westlake Avenue North and Mercer Street intersection.
  • Monitor traffic flow at the Dexter Avenue North and Mercer Street intersection.
