Weekly Construction Wrap Up

mercer_logo_200Construction activities continued on the north side of Mercer Street between Fifth Avenue North and Dexter Avenue North and the west side of SR 99 between Valley and Harrison streets. Construction was completed on Mercer Street at Fifth Avenue West and daytime lane restrictions began on Fifth Avenue North to accommodate utility work beneath the roadway.

Activities last week included:

  • Completed drainage work on West Mercer Street near Fifth Avenue West.
  • Completed hydroseeding the north side of the I-5 on-ramp at Mercer Street.
  • Began utility work beneath the roadway on Fifth Avenue North between Harrison Street and Roy Street.
  • Began installation of lateral storm water connection lines under roadway on Mercer Street between Fifth Avenue North and Dexter Avenue North.
  • Continued sidewalk work and conduit installation on the south side of Mercer Street between Queen Anne Avenue North and Third Avenue North and on the north side of Mercer Street between Queen Anne Avenue North and Fourth Avenue North.
  • Continued installing concrete panels on the north retaining wall on Mercer Street between Fifth Avenue North and Dexter Avenue North.
  • Continued installing utilities on the south side of Mercer Street between Fifth Avenue North and Aurora Avenue North.
  • Continued work on the north and south ends of the west side of the SR 99 bridge.
  • The southbound lanes of Ninth Avenue North between Mercer and Republican streets were closed on Friday, Jan. 10, and the signal at the intersection of Ninth Avenue North and Mercer Street was in flash mode while crews worked to repair the southern signal arm, which was damaged by a vehicle earlier that day. Uniformed police officers directed traffic until repairs were completed late that evening. Travelers heading south on Ninth Avenue North were diverted left onto eastbound Mercer Street to continue south on Westlake Avenue North. Right turns onto westbound Mercer Street were permitted.
  • Northbound Fifth Avenue North was closed to traffic between Republican and Mercer Streets beginning at 4 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, through Monday, Jan. 13, at 5 a.m. Travelers heading north towards Queen Anne were detoured to Fourth Avenue North and eastbound Mercer Street to reconnect with Fifth Avenue North at Mercer Street.

Please note:

  • Temporary daytime lane restrictions on Fifth Avenue North will continue for approximately one week to accommodate utility work beneath the roadway. Fifth Avenue North will be restricted to one lane in each direction on weekdays between Harrison Street and Roy Street during off-peak travel times, between approximately 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
