Don’t forget…Friday is the deadline to make your creative ideas a reality by applying for a parklet in your neighborhood!
SDOT is extending the Pilot Parklet Program through 2014 and is accepting applications for new parklets until Friday, February 28. Parklets convert one or two on-street parking spaces into public open space and help to activate the right-of-way, promote economic vitality, and create more vibrant neighborhoods. They are privately funded and maintained, but open for everyone to enjoy.
It’s easy to submit a parklet application! All we need is a simple hand-drawn site plan, a few photos of the parklet location, a completed application form, and two short letters of support. Letters can be submitted by email and can be written by anyone in your community, including customers, residents, business owners, or property owners. The application guidelines can provide additional help in preparing your application and finding a location for your parklet.
We’ll permit five new parklet locations in 2014—successful applicants will be announced in mid-March—and then we’ll evaluate all of the pilot parklets after they’re installed.
Remember, application materials must be emailed to jennifer.wieland@seattle.gov by 5:00 PM this Friday, February 28!
