We celebrated Ride Transit Month in June, an annual celebration of transit riders organized by Transportation Choices Coalition. To thank riders we and our partner agencies held a “Transit For the Win,” prize giveaway on June 21 – yes, transit riders got free prizes! Transit staff and volunteers surprised riders on buses, trains, and water taxis throughout Seattle and handed out prizes worth over $22,000 from Starbucks coffee gift cards to a grand prize round trip ticket from Alaska Airlines!

This event was a great way to celebrate the success of transit in our region, which has had the highest growth in transit ridership in the country in 2016! It also shows how public agencies can work with the private sector on transportation investments. Commute Seattle estimates that in 2016, Seattle companies invested over $100 million in infrastructure and benefits to help their employees and their neighbors get around!
Our transit partners: Commute Seattle, Transmanage, King County Metro, Transportation Choices Coalition. Prizes from nine Challenge Seattle member companies including: Alaska Airlines, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (in partnership with Bike Works), Boeing, Chateau Ste Michelle, Costco, Nordstrom, Puget Sound Energy, Starbucks, and Zillow Group.
Thank you transit riders! You help keep our region moving.
