Happy New Year, Seattle! We hope you have a happy, healthy, and safe new year!
We’re going to jump right in with a sobering stat to highlight a call for safety on our streets this New Year’s Eve. We promise we’re not trying to be a Debbie Downer, we just want everyone to have fun and be safe.
In 2016, nearly 10,500 individuals died in alcohol-impaired-driving crashes in the United States. These are loved ones: friends, family members, co-workers, neighbors, someone’s future…gone because of impaired driving. In Seattle, impairment contributes to close to 20% of fatal crashes each year.
If we’re going to reach our Vision Zero goal of ending traffic deaths and serious injuries on city streets by 2030, we’re going to need your help, particularly on this issue. No matter how you’re planning to celebrate the New Year, plan ahead for a safe ride home.
