This blog was updated on 12/31/2019 to share current information on January 3-6 closure.
The intersection of 35th Ave SW and SW Alaska Street will be closed this weekend, January 3 – 6. Travelers headed north on 35th Ave SW must follow detour at SW Morgan Street.
What’s happening on SW Alaska St and 35th Ave SW?
Earlier this year, as a part of the SW Seattle Paving: 35th/Avalon Project, construction began to make safety and transit improvements for people walking, bicycling, driving and riding the bus in West Seattle. When complete, improvements will include a new protected bike lane, new bus stops, widened sidewalks in some areas, and a full depth rebuild of the road.
We have now begun work on SW Alaska St and will be closing the intersection of 35th Ave SW and SW Alaska St for up to 3 weekends. The first closure was December 13-16th, and the second closure is scheduled for January 3 – 6, 2020. We need to close the intersection for the safety of people traveling and to allow workers, large equipment, and trucks to maneuver throughout the work zone efficiently and safely. This intersection closure is scheduled to begin at 9 AM to minimize night work and loud noise for near neighbors as we demolish, excavate, and rebuild the road. This work relies on good weather to allow the concrete to cure, so depending on weather, the schedule may change.
Here’s what you can expect:
