On July 21 at 5:30 PM, the West Seattle Bridge Program will hold a virtual public meeting for you to hear more about the work we’re doing to reopen the bridge in mid-2022 and ask your questions.

Members of our team will provide updates about the ongoing repair effort on the West Seattle High-Rise Bridge (high bridge), expanded access on the Spokane St Swing Bridge (low bridge), and our work to improve access to and around West Seattle through the Reconnect West Seattle, Home Zone, and neighborhood travel options programs. We’ll also have plenty of time for you to submit questions, which will be answered live at our meeting by a panel of team members.

Here’s a preview of some of the updates that we’ll be sharing about our ongoing work on and around the bridge.

The West Seattle High-Rise Bridge is on track to re-open mid-2022

We know the bridge closure is creating big challenges. Our team is hard at work: initial repairs to stabilize the bridge are complete and final repairs begin this fall. Thank you for your patience and resilience. Learn more about high bridge repair here.

Travel options and how you can help

As COVID restrictions lift, streets are getting busier. We are working to build projects that promote safety and minimize traffic impacts in neighborhoods.  You can help too! If you can, skip the drive. Bike, walk, roll, scoot, catch a bus or ferry, join a vanpool, or stay local.

Don’t drive on the Spokane St Swing Bridge (low bridge) unless approved

The low bridge is closed to most vehicles on weekdays from 5 AM to 9 PM and weekends from 8 AM to 9 PM. Unauthorized vehicles will receive a $75 ticket. See if you qualify to drive on the low bridge or apply for access here. The low bridge remains open for all who are walking, biking, or rolling.

We’ll also share updates about ongoing rehabilitation efforts to keep the low bridge strong, long-term replacement planning, and opportunities to stay involved in the West Seattle Bridge Program.

As we work to repair the bridge as quickly and safely as possible, we appreciate your patience and resilience. We hope you can join us!
