On April 24, our crews will begin paving Occidental Ave S next to Lumen Field, between S King St and S Royal Brougham Way. We’ll repave the street in several segments, starting with the northern segment at S King St. Each section will take approximately 2 weeks to complete. Crews will remove and replace the existing top layer of asphalt as part of the work.

This summer is expected to be full of regional travel, construction, and major events — including the 2023 Major League Baseball All-Star Week at T-Mobile Park. We want to ensure people visiting Seattle and residents traveling around the Stadium District can do so safely and efficiently.

We resurface streets like this one to make them safer, smoother, and to extend their useful life. Keeping our transportation system in a state of good repair helps lower the cost of future maintenance.

Here’s what you should know about the upcoming pavement work:

Project schedule

Work on this project will occur in 3 to 4 segments and is expected to last a total of 2 to 3 months.

Work on Segment 1 at S King Street is scheduled to begin April 24 and last through May 5, 2023.

What you can expect

We will coordinate the work with nearby events and vendors in the neighborhood and this work will not occur during major stadium events.

During construction, you can expect:

  • Occidental Ave S will be closed to vehicles with road barricade signs.
  • Sidewalks will remain open and accessible around work zones. Temporary pedestrian and bike detours will be placed around the work zone and staging area.
  • Access to businesses and homes will be maintained at all times.
  • Typical work hours between 8 AM and 3 PM, Monday through Friday. Some evening work may be expected.
  • Typical construction noise, dust, and vibrations will occur.
  • 24/7 parking restrictions for the duration of each segment will occur.

Please note: this work is weather dependent, and the schedule is subject to change.

We hope to complete this work in time for peak summer travel and events season, but paving requires dry, warm weather! If we’re not able to work due to inclement weather, you can expect to see us paving on the next dry and warm day.
