New protected bike lane and street paving coming to the Roosevelt neighborhood! | LEVY DOLLARS AT WORK

Family biking on 11th Ave NE.

At a Glance

  • We’ve completed the final design of the 11th Ave NE & 12th Ave NE Paving & Safety Project! We are adding to our citywide bicycle network, connecting people to homes and businesses, and making it safer to walk, roll, and bike through this busy area.
  • The project will include:
    • Freshly repaved streets between NE 43rd St and NE 67th St
    • New northbound, 1.2-mile protected bike lane on the east side of 11th Ave NE and 12th Ave NE.
    • New raised protected bike lanes at bus stops
    • Repaired sidewalks and curb ramps to improve mobility for people of all abilities
    • Improved crosswalks and traffic signals to make crossing the street safer
    • And more!
  • Construction expected to begin in winter 2023 and continue into 2025.
  • This project is part of our Vision Zero goal to end traffic deaths and serious injuries by 2030, and is funded in part by the voter-approved Levy to Move Seattle. Thank you, Seattle!

Thank you, Seattle! The Levy to Move Seattle, approved by voters in 2015, is helping to fund this important safety project.

We’ve completed the final design of the 11th Ave NE & 12th Ave NE Paving & Safety Project! We are adding to our citywide bicycle network; connecting people to the U District and Roosevelt Link light rail stations, homes, and businesses; and making it safer to walk, roll, and bike through this busy area.

When the project is complete, you’ll see these important improvements:

  • Freshly repaved streets between NE 43rd St and NE 67th St to improve safety and mobility for people traveling across all modes.
    • Every year, we pave arterial streets to keep you moving, whether you’re biking, walking, riding the bus, or driving. Paving projects help to move people and goods more safely and efficiently.

  • New protected bike lane on the east side of 11th Ave NE & 12th Ave NE, which will connect to future bike lanes at NE 43rd St as part of the RapidRide J Line project for a seamless link between the Roosevelt, U District, Eastlake, and South Lake Union neighborhoods.
    • The bike lane will complement the existing southbound protected bike lane on Roosevelt Way NE a block away and improve connections to and from the Roosevelt and U District Link light rail stations and adjacent business districts.
    • In prior designs the bike lane was on the west side, but after meeting with neighbors and businesses, we’ve moved the bike lane to the east side so people biking don’t have to cross the street to stay in the lane, provide a new buffer for the east side sidewalk, and preserve more loading zones for businesses that require on-street deliveries.
  • New raised protected bike lanes at bus stops.
    • The shared bus stop will reduce interactions between bikes, cars and buses on the corridor, providing improved safety and predictability for all users, and will help keep transit moving to improve travel time for people riding buses.
  • Repaired sidewalks and curb ramps to improve mobility for people of all abilities
  • Improved crosswalks and traffic signals to make crossing the street safer
  • And more!

We expect construction to begin as soon as winter 2023 and continue into 2025.

This project is part of our Vision Zero goal to end traffic deaths and serious injuries by 2030.

In addition to incorporating community feedback, we analyzed traffic and parking data and reviewed freight, transit, bike, and pedestrian master plan recommendations. All these factors informed our designs, including the safety features such as protected bike lanes and updated traffic signals.
