At-a-glance:
- Check it out – you can now experience safer, more comfortable travel in Roosevelt, Ravenna, and the U District, thanks to the 11th & 12th Ave NE Paving & Safety Project, where construction is officially complete!
- Top features include new, smoother street pavement, a new protected bike lane, raised bike lanes at bus stops, sidewalk repairs, more ADA-accessible curb ramps, and enhanced crosswalks and traffic signals to support safer travel for everyone.
- The project spans 11th and 12th avenues NE, between NE 43rd and NE 67th streets.
- Whether you’re headed to work on the light rail, stopping by a local park or restaurant, or just headed home for the day, you’ll notice the difference today compared to a year ago, when construction began in May 2024.
- The 11th and 12th project connects you to other upgrades in the area, including:
- Southbound protected bike lane on Roosevelt Ave NE, connecting to the east-west bike facilities on NE 65th St, which we upgraded back in 2019.
- This project is made possible by the voter-approved Levy to Move Seattle. Thank you, Seattle!
Project top features
- Street paving of 11th and 12th avenues NE between NE 43rd and NE 67th streets, including accessible curb ramps along the corridor.
- New protected bike lane on the east side of 11th Ave NE & 12th Ave NE, to build out the neighborhood’s bike network and connect to the Roosevelt light rail station.
- Raised protected bike lanes at bus stops to make it easier to cross the bike lane and get to the bus, while also allowing for a continuous protected bike lane at bus stops.
- Spot sidewalk repair along the project corridor, making it easier to walk or roll on sidewalks in the neighborhood.
- Enhanced crosswalks and traffic signals throughout project area, to improve safety for people walking, rolling, and biking. This includes new crosswalks at NE 55th St, NE Ravenna Blvd, and NE 62nd St.
We appreciate the input we heard from you and your neighbors as we developed the project’s final design. Based on this feedback, we shifted the new bike lane on 11th and 12th Aves NE to the east side of the street. This better complimented existing bike lanes in the area, while preserving more parking spots for residents and local businesses.
