Six bridges and counting!

The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) operates and maintains more than 149 bridges across the city.  Each bridge provides a key link between our neighborhoods and business districts and helps keep goods and services moving throughout the city.

With funding provided by the voter approved Bridging the Gap (BTG) program, SDOT’s Bridge Rehabilitation and Replacement Program is keeping these structures in good repair.  Work on six major bridges in north, central and south Seattle has been completed.  Bridges include Airport Way over ARGO Railroad Yard, East Duwamish Waterway Bridge, Dr. Jose Rizal Bridge, NE 15th at 105th Street Bridge and NE 45th Street Viaduct Replacement.

Not only has SDOT met and exceeded its BTG goal by completing five projects, thanks to solid project management and more than $20 million in grant awards, we are now able to begin design on three more bridge projects – Fairview Avenue N; Yesler Way over Fourth Avenue S; and the 15th Avenue W interchange bridge deck overlay project.

Keeping Seattle bridges safe and operating properly is crucial and major credit goes to BTG which has made it possible for SDOT to fulfill this top priority.  For information about BTG please visit the web page.
