Travel Alert: Weekend work in West Seattle

This weekend, August 8-9, we’ll be working throughout West Seattle to improve safety along detour routes.

Since the West Seattle High-Rise Bridge closure, we’ve implemented 170+ improvements to keep people moving across the Duwamish and throughout West Seattle, including adding new speed radar signs to Sylvan Way SW last weekend.

We continue to prioritize safety issues that have come up along detour routes with increased traffic and are addressing emerging needs as they arise, to the best of our abilities. This weekend’s work includes:

Intersection improvement at 16th Ave SW and SW Holden St

At the 16th Ave SW and SW Holden St intersection, we’ll be putting in new turn pockets so drivers can make protected left turns to go east and west on SW Holden St.

To limit the cut-through traffic on 20th Ave SW, we’ll be installing new signs to better identify the arterial streets near the intersection. In addition, we’ll also be making signal timing adjustments to help people get through the intersection better.

Tree trimming on West Marginal Way, Sylvan Way SW, and SW Orchard St.

We’ll also be tree trimming on West Marginal Way, Sylvan Way SW, and SW Orchard St. This tree trimming work will improve roadway and sign visibility for people commuting.

During all of this work, there’ll be temporary lane closures, traffic control, flaggers, and uniform police officers working in the street.

Please plan ahead for additional travel time and delays if you are going through any of these areas. Thank you for your patience while we make these improvements.

For questions about these improvements, please contact 206-684-ROAD or 684-ROAD@Seattle.gov.
