Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. In honor of the holiday and our hard working employees, we spent the last few Fridays blogging about them. Today is our final post and we would like to introduce you to Jo Kimble.
Jo is celebrating her third year of employmen
t at SDOT this Sunday (although not here at work!). While her favorite parts of working at SDOT include seeing friends and the outgoing people, she enjoys being busy and works hard to keep us organized. Jo came to SDOT through a partnership with Puget Sound Personnel (PSP). She was hired as part of the City of Seattle`s Supported Employment Program, which matches people with developmental disabilities with a city job and provides on-the-job support. Jo handles special projects such as keeping the 38th floor of the Seattle Municipal Tower and SDOT offices organized. She sorts and delivers mail, relocates supplies, scans materials, and delivers documents to different floors and city departments. She also creates packets of important notifications—such as Winter Weather Preparedness brochures—for delivery to schools, hospitals and other locations. Last, but not least, Jo helps with setup and teardown of employee celebrations like holiday potlucks and retirement parties. PSP provides a job coach who visits SDOT once a week to check in with Jo and make sure any difficulties she might be having are addressed. We are happy to report this is rarely the case!
As you know, if you’ve been reading past articles on SDOT employees including Terry Denton, Cliserio Bonilla, David Leask and Theresa Smith, we’ve been asking what song each one would choose to sing during Karaoke. We are ending the series with one of Jo’s favorites, a fun song by the Backstreet Boys called Larger than Life.
